Your garage door can take up a third of your home’s street frontage, so it may as well be worth looking at. Danmar garage doors are custom made in Australia to suit your home, whether that’s natural Western Red Cedar, modern aluminium and glass, or a design of your own. Best Doors supplies and installs the full Danmar range from our Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Hervey Bay and Adelaide branches.
What Are Danmar Garage Doors?
Danmar is an Australian manufacturer of custom designed garage doors, best known for natural timber doors made from Western Red Cedar. The range also covers aluminium, glass, perforated and insulated designs, and every door is made to order.
What sets Danmar apart is how their doors are built. Each design starts with a custom aluminium frame, with the timber, aluminium, glass or insulated panels fitted to it. The frame does the structural work, so the door stays straight and true over its life, and the materials on the face are free to look their best. It's the reason a Danmar timber door won't sag or twist the way an old fashioned solid timber door can.
Danmar has been manufacturing since 1987, and in that time has built a reputation with architects, builders and homeowners who want a garage door that looks like it was designed for the house, because it was.

Why Choose a Danmar Garage Door
Designed Around Your Home
Danmar doors are made to order, one at a time. That means the panel widths, proportions, materials and finish are chosen to suit your opening and your home's style. If your home has existing timber features, the door can be made to match them.
Natural Timber
The timber range uses Western Red Cedar and quality plywood. Natural timber brings a warmth and texture all of its own, and each door is slightly different because no two boards are the same.
More Than Just Timber
Danmar also builds doors in aluminium, acrylic, polycarbonate, toughened glass and insulated panels. If you love the look of battens, want natural light in the garage, or need a door that keeps the heat out, there's a design for it.
Australian Made
Danmar doors have been manufactured in Australia since 1987. The designs, materials and finishes are chosen with Australian homes and conditions in mind, and the door on your home is backed by local support.
The Danmar Timber Range
The timber range is what Danmar is best known for. Each door is built from natural timber fixed to a custom aluminium frame, and most designs can be fully sealed, oiled in a range of colours, painted in a solid colour, or left raw to weather naturally.
Cedar Panel
Made from natural Western Red Cedar horizontal boards, available in 86mm or 135mm widths. The premium quality timber boards are fixed to a sturdy aluminium frame, and optional aluminium strips or windows can be added for a contrast look or natural light. A classic design that suits almost any home.
Best for
Homeowners who want the traditional timber garage door look with modern construction behind it.
Key feature
Choice of 86mm or 135mm horizontal boards with optional aluminium or window features.
Verti Panel
The Vertipanel runs 135mm vertical Vee-Joint boards (boards with a fine V shaped groove where they meet) top to bottom on a custom designed aluminium frame. The vertical lines create a clean, elongated look that adds height to the front of your home, and the door can be made to match existing gates or entry doors. It's one of Danmar's most popular designs.
Best for
Modern and traditional homes where vertical lines suit the architecture, or where matching gates are wanted.
Key feature
Can be made to match existing gates and doors for a consistent look across the front of your home.
Carriage Panel
The Carriage Panel brings a touch of country style, with 135mm natural timber boards fixed to a strong aluminium frame in the traditional carriage house pattern. Customised finishes are available in 86mm panels, with glass, perspex or metal alternatives to the louvre infill in the top panels.
Best for
Farmhouse, Hamptons and country style homes, from rural properties to suburban builds.
Key feature
Traditional carriage door looks with the convenience of a modern sectional door.
Barn Panel
Inspired by traditional barn architecture, the Barn Panel is built from 135mm vertical Vee-Joint boards fixed to a sturdy aluminium frame, with horizontal timber bracing boards (called whalers) added across the face to create the classic barn door look. The door can be produced with or without bolts on the whalers, and 86mm vertical Shiplap panelling is available as an alternative.
It's a door with rustic character that still runs as a smooth sectional door.
Best for
Homes going for a rustic, farmhouse or barn style look with natural timber character.
Key feature
Available in 135mm Vee-Joint or 86mm Shiplap panelling, with or without bolted whalers.
Ply Panel
The Ply Panel is a modern timber door with clean lines and a smooth, flat surface, built from AA grade plywood sheets fixed to a sturdy aluminium frame. Sheets can be butt joined for a seamless face or rebated for a subtle shadow line. This door is finished in natural oil only, which keeps the flat surface looking its best.
Best for
Flush mount and minimalist designs on modern homes.
Key feature
Smooth, flat timber surface with a choice of butt joined or rebated joins.
Ply and Batten
The Ply and Batten pairs AA grade plywood sheets with Western Red Cedar battens mounted over the top, mixing a smooth background with natural texture. This design is specifically built to show off the natural beauty of the timber, so it's finished in natural oil only rather than sealed or painted.
Best for
Homeowners who want visible, natural timber texture on a modern style door.
Key feature
Cedar battens over a smooth plywood face for depth and shadow lines.
Herringbone Panel
The Herringbone Panel is a natural timber door built from tongue and groove boards arranged in a herringbone (zigzag) pattern, mounted to a solid aluminium frame. It's available in 86mm panelling and is easily produced as a sectional door, so you get a striking pattern on a door that runs smoothly every day.
Best for
Homes where the garage door is meant to be a design feature in its own right.
Key feature
86mm tongue and groove boards laid in a herringbone pattern.
The Danmar Aluminium & Glass Range
Danmar's aluminium range covers 13 standard designs across glass, acrylic, battens, louvres and metal finishes, all built on the same custom frame system as the timber doors. Because the frame carries the weight, designs can feature materials like toughened glass, acrylic and open louvres, bringing light, airflow and texture to the front of your home.
Clearlite
Translucent 5mm acrylic panels with built in UV protection, letting natural light flood the garage.
Twinlite
Twin walled 10mm polycarbonate panels that glow softly with light while adding strength and privacy.
Multilite
Multi walled 8-10mm polycarbonate for diffused light with extra rigidity.
Glasslite
Toughened glass panels in an aluminium frame, for something elegant and different.
Perfalite
Perforated panels (18% or 42% open) that let both light and airflow through.
Battens and louvres add depth and shadow lines to the front of a home. Danmar builds these designs with solid battens fixed to a welded aluminium frame, so the texture looks as good up close as it does from the street.
Cedar Batten Panel
Solid Western Red Cedar battens (40x18mm or 65x18mm) on a welded aluminium frame, with optional acrylic or aluminium composite backing for privacy.
Ali Batten Panel
The same batten look in low maintenance aluminium, with the same backing options.
Ali Louvre Panel
Open louvre inserts in a custom aluminium frame, giving airflow with a clean architectural look.
Barlite
19mm horizontal aluminium bars with acrylic backing, for fine horizontal lines with light behind them.
Smooth faced doors and feature materials, for when you want the finish itself to be the feature.
Alipanel
Flat aluminium composite panels for a smooth, minimal face, with joins either butt joined or rebated. Standard colours are DMR Silver, Champagne, Metallic Grey and White, with other colours optional.
Aliwood
Tongue and groove panels set into an aluminium frame, blending traditional board lines with a modern build.
Timberlite
A solid Western Red Cedar frame with acrylic inserts, mixing timber warmth with panels of light.
Mini Orb
Classic corrugated Mini Orb profile, available plain, with cedar borders, or set into a custom aluminium frame. Custom Orb is also available.
Insulated Danmar Doors (Thermopanel)
The Thermopanel range brings insulation to the Danmar range. These doors are built from smooth finish insulated panels formed into a sectional door, keeping the garage cooler in summer, warmer in winter, and noticeably quieter.
There are two designs in the Thermopanel range:
Thermoflat
One of the flattest garage door profiles available, with smooth, fire resistant insulated panels and a clean, simple face.
Thermofine
A fine line panel profile, available in wood look finishes for warmth without the timber.
An insulated door makes the biggest difference when the garage sits under or beside a bedroom, faces west into the afternoon sun, or gets used as a home gym, workshop or extra living space. You can see more insulated options from our other brands on our sectional garage doors page.
Custom Designed Doors
Custom designed doors are a Danmar specialty. If you've found a design you love, or your architect has drawn something specific for your build, we'll work with the Danmar team to manufacture a one off door, often using a combination of timber, aluminium and glass in the one design. There's also a Precious Metals range for feature doors in special metal finishes.
Bring your plans or inspiration photos to your free measure and quote and we'll work through what's possible with you. For more design led options across our other brands, see our designer garage doors page.
Caring for a Timber Garage Door
A timber garage door needs periodic care to keep looking its best: typically a re-oil or reseal, with how often depending on the finish you choose and how much sun and weather the door cops. Western Red Cedar is naturally durable and resists warping, but the finish is what protects the colour.
You've got choices in how much upkeep you sign up for. A fully sealed door needs the least attention, an oiled door needs a more regular top up but is easy to refresh, and a raw door can be left to silver off naturally with next to no work at all. Our team will walk you through what each finish looks like over time.
And if you love the timber look but know you'll never get around to oiling it, that's fine too. Have a look at our timber look garage doors, which give you wood grain finishes on steel doors with no timber maintenance at all.
Sizes, Lead Times and What to Expect
Every Danmar door is made to measure, so there's no standard size chart to squeeze your opening into. Single, double and oversized openings are all catered for, and the design is drawn up around your exact measurements.
Custom designs and natural materials take a little longer to manufacture, so allow more time than you would for a standard door. Your quote will include the current lead time so you can plan around it.
The process is simple: we measure your opening and talk through designs at your home, Danmar manufactures your door, and our local team installs it and sets up any motor and accessories. The same team services the door afterwards.

How much maintenance does a timber garage door need?
It depends on the finish. Sealed doors need the least care, oiled doors need a periodic re-oil to hold their colour, and raw doors can simply be left to weather to a natural silver grey. Whichever you choose, cedar's natural durability means the door itself is built to last, the finish just protects how it looks.
Can I get an insulated Danmar door?
Yes. The Danmar Thermopanel range includes the Thermoflat and Thermofine, both built from smooth insulated panels that reduce heat transfer and outside noise. They're a great fit for garages under bedrooms or used as living space.
Are Danmar garage doors cyclone rated?
No. Danmar doors aren't cyclone rated, so they're only available in non cyclone regions: Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Hervey Bay and Adelaide. If you're north of Hervey Bay, regulations require a cyclone rated door. Have a look at our sectional garage doors for cyclone rated options.
Can Danmar make a completely custom design?
Yes, custom work is a Danmar specialty. Bring a photo, an idea, or your architect's drawings, and we'll work with the Danmar team to manufacture a one off door using a unique combination of materials such as timber, aluminium, glass and feature metals.
How long does a Danmar door take to arrive?
Allow a little more time than for a standard door, as custom designs and natural materials take longer to manufacture. Your quote will include the current lead time.
